Freestyle Frainkie - May 2021
The fourth wresting dog, Freestyle Frankie wears a singlet like those worn in Olympic style wrestling. He’s an eager lil guy! This image shows the piece mounted for framing.
Yusho Burudoggo - April 2020
Getting into the idea of various types of wresting dogs, Yusho is the first Sumo. Inspired by a neighboring bulldog’s coat, Yusho too has spots of brindle.
Chingona Pequena - March 2020
A companion to “perrolibre.” This lil badass is the second in my series of wresting dogs. I am keeping the bodies simplified to emphasize the outfits.
perrolibre - August 2019
Inspired to embroider a wrestling dog for a themed art show at Romero’s K9 Club and Tap House this summer, perrolibre may well be the first in a new series of stitchery.
Arabella's, My Spirit Animal - 2019
Inspired by my niece’s drawing upon my father’s fridge. I immediately fell in love, and in 2019 stitched the design! Many stitches reflect the directions of the colored pencil strokes.
Sent to Arabella. Made with Patience & Love!
Dragonfly Calico Kitten with Deer Antlers - 2019
Fourth, and final piece in my series of whimsical chimeric cats.
November 2017 through March 2019
I worked during classes, through the summer, and at home, many short sessions over a long period of time.
Owl Winged Ram Kitten - 2017
Third in my series of whimsical chimeric cats.
February through October 2017, I worked during classes, through the summer, and on the Leadership Retreat in Estes Park with students in the fall. Finished up the clouds using French Knots on that trip. Finally sewed on the star buttons May 2018!
Bat Winged Antelope Kitten - 2016
Second in a new series of whimsical chimeric cats.
This one took over one year to complete. I only worked during choice moments, at the end of a quarter, when students were also working towards completion.
Rainbow Unicorn Kitten Butterfly - 2015
Inspired by an internet meme, and now an inspiration for a set of whimsical chimera cats. This image represents the completion of the stitching; the piece is not complete in terms of presentation.
Fear in the cockblocker of dreams. - 2017
I made this for my son’s 30th Birthday gift. He had prompted me with a little cross stitch, hinted how cool it would be if I made one for him.
Octopus! - 2014
A playful demonstration of dedication to a project.
While my embroidering students are working to meet class deadlines, basically, the teaching is "done," I get to stitch!
love is friendship set on fire - 2014
A lovely quote, one I felt inclined to represent with string.
Embroidered Work
Gettin’ my stitch on, 2014 to 2021.
During the final ten years of teaching, I taught high school students how to embroider, it was a required class! This enjoyable art form I explored as a youth reemerged.
